Week 7: Thursday

Today in the pit we explored the use of grids and how websites can be coded to resized based on the size of your browser. We were shown a really good website that a Massey lecture designed; the layout of information was able to change when resized down to a mobile phone screen size and was interactive with the user. We then looked at the use of programs and the sufficient use of images such as pngs, giphs and jpgs and the difference between them.

In studio we then tested our prototypes with mine being finding electives for Bachelor Design 300 Level. I came up with two different pathways with the user either having the option to use the search bar or click on 'Study: What we have to offer'

My user firstly clicked 'What we have to offer' on the homepage and from that she was easily navigated to the end page which listed all the electives. I had positive feedback  however if I was to go into more depth for this design I could lay out the electives differently and with more structure.

Next in the studio we discussed websites that we found appealing and strong in design. Overall I was visually drawn to the illustrative style of websites and it being interecative with the user.

Examples of these websites included:

  • Kombucha Website
Apple Website - Clean and Simplistic style

  • Amazing illustrations and aesthetics
  • Detail - You can click on the girls earrings to be taken to the earrings product
  • Super interactive

IDEA DEVELOPMENT: Waste Management

I need to finalise my idea exactly and address
- What the problem is?
- How you can fix the problem?
- What is the impact?

Explore the ideas around awareness and motivation? Barriers: What information do I need to provide for these barriers?
